The Yankees are one of the best teams in MLB. They receive so much public attention and they deliver. Over the past seven years, they have won an incredible 63% of their home games. They will kick start the new season with Joe Torre who has been managing the team. He led the Yankees to World Series titles in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000. In 1996, Torre was selected American League Manager of the year. He has also managed parts of 15 seasons with Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets. Joe has a .297 career batting average in parts of 18 successful seasons. They are a notable team not for their impressive history but also for their flourishing financial situation. In 2005, the payroll of the team was more than $208 million.
Last season didn't start well for the Yankees as it expected to be. Initially they were in last place in the prestigious American League East division. Main players, Wright and Pavano struggled, so did Johnson. But as the season progressed, the Yankees got better and better as slugger Jason Giambi started to hit with power and timing again. Though they were defeated by the Angels in the 2005 Division Series but went on to win the final game by a score of 5-3. This season, Brian Cashman took control as the manager of the team
Last season they successfully re-stocked with their form. For the Last five years they have attacked the off-season very aggressively. Damon's arrival in the final line up of the team will help them to use a designated hitter. With some young players like: Chien-Ming Wang, Robinson Cano, Shawn Chacon and Andy Philips being counted on to really play significant roles. They have some of the better hitters in the MLB such as Alex Rodriguez, Damon, Derek Jeter, Matsui, Sheffield and Giambi. The Yankees have got some very vibrant players.
